AI crawlers
Bingbot
Bingbot is the web crawler Microsoft uses for Bing search.
In plain words
Microsoft publishes the IP ranges Bingbot crawls from, so you can check whether a visit is real.
In 2023, Microsoft said content in its Bing index may be included in the answers of Bing Chat, its AI chat at the time.
Example
Microsoft’s 2023 options for Bing Chat were: content without a NOCACHE or NOARCHIVE tag may be used in chat answers; with NOCACHE, only URLs, titles and snippets may be shown; with NOARCHIVE, the content is not included in Bing Chat answers and not linked.
<meta name="robots" content="noarchive">Why it matters for AI search
Bing’s AI Performance report, launched in 2026, shows how often your pages are cited in Microsoft Copilot, AI-generated summaries in Bing and select partner integrations.
Bing says it respects all content owner preferences expressed through robots.txt and other supported control mechanisms.
What you can do
- Verify your site in Bing Webmaster Tools and check the AI Performance report.
- Use IndexNow to tell Bing about new or changed pages quickly.
- Check that robots.txt or a firewall doesn’t block Bingbot by accident.
Often confused with
- Google’s noarchive
- Google says it no longer uses noarchive, because its cached-page feature is gone. Microsoft’s 2023 announcement gave the tag a role in Bing Chat.
