AI performance reports

Also called: Bing AI Performance, Generative AI performance report

AI performance reports are reports in Bing Webmaster Tools and Google Search Console that show how often your pages appear in AI-generated answers.

In plain words

Bing launched AI Performance as a public preview in February 2026. It shows citations across Microsoft Copilot, AI-generated summaries in Bing and select partner integrations.

Google announced its Search generative AI performance reports in June 2026. By 31 August 2026 they had rolled out to all websites.

Example

In Bing’s report, the "grounding queries" list shows the key phrases the AI used when it retrieved your content that was then cited. Google’s report shows impressions in AI features such as AI Overviews and AI Mode, by page, country, device and date.

Why it matters for AI search

These numbers come from the search engines themselves, not from estimates by a third-party tool.

Google adds that no third-party tool has access to its internal ranking or AI systems.

What you can do

  • Verify your site in both Bing Webmaster Tools and Google Search Console.
  • In Bing, look at which pages are cited and for which grounding queries.
  • In Search Console, open the generative AI performance report to see impressions in AI Overviews, AI Mode and Discover.

Often confused with

AI referral traffic
These reports count appearances and citations. Referral traffic counts the visits that actually come from AI tools.
The normal performance report
Google says AI feature data stays included in the overall performance report. The new report is a separate view of it.
