Low Score Issues
My GEO-Score is below 50
Common cause: Your content may lack the depth, structure, or technical signals that AI engines look for when selecting sources to cite. This is the most common issue for websites that have not yet been optimized for generative search.
How to fix this:
- Run a full analysis and review each category score to identify your weakest areas.
- Start with Content Structure: ensure every page has clear headings (H1, H2, H3), short paragraphs, and bullet points for key information.
- Add schema markup (FAQ, HowTo, Article) to your most important pages to help AI engines understand your content.
- Include specific data points, statistics, and citations from authoritative sources to boost your citation potential.
- Re-analyze after making changes to track your progress and identify the next set of improvements.
AI bots are being blocked by my website
Common cause: Your robots.txt file or server configuration is blocking AI crawlers like GPTBot (ChatGPT), ClaudeBot (Claude), or PerplexityBot from accessing your content. If AI engines cannot crawl your site, they cannot cite it.
How to fix this:
Add the following rules to your robots.txt file to allow major AI crawlers:
User-agent: GPTBot
Allow: /
User-agent: Claude-Web
Allow: /My content readability score is low
Common cause: AI engines struggle with content that is overly complex, uses excessive jargon without explanation, or lacks clear logical structure. Content that is hard for humans to scan is also hard for AI to parse.
How to improve readability:
- Use short paragraphs (3-4 sentences maximum) and break up long blocks of text.
- Write in clear, direct language. Aim for a reading level accessible to a broad audience.
- Use bullet points and numbered lists to present key information, steps, and comparisons.
- Define technical terms when first used and provide context for industry-specific concepts.
- Add a clear summary or key takeaways section at the beginning or end of each page.
Technical Issues
Schema Markup Not Detected
Symptoms: Your analysis shows a low or zero score for structured data, even though you believe schema markup is present on your pages.
Quick check: Validate your schema markup using Google's Rich Results Test (search.google.com/test/rich-results). Common issues include malformed JSON-LD, missing required properties, or schema placed inside JavaScript that does not render server-side.
Analysis Fails or Times Out
Possible causes: The analysis could not complete, which is usually caused by network or server configuration issues.
- Verify the URL is publicly accessible and does not require authentication or login.
- Check that your server is not rate-limiting or blocking requests from our analysis service.
- Ensure the page loads within a reasonable time (under 10 seconds). Slow pages may cause timeouts.
- Try analyzing a different page on the same domain to determine if the issue is page-specific or site-wide.
Content Optimization Issues
Low Citation Potential Score
Your content may lack the signals that make AI engines want to cite it. To improve, include original data, specific statistics, expert quotes, and references to authoritative sources. Content that provides unique insights or answers specific questions comprehensively tends to score highest for citation potential.
Thin Content Warning
Pages with fewer than 300 words or that lack substantive information will receive a thin content flag. AI engines prefer comprehensive resources that thoroughly cover a topic. Consider expanding your content with relevant details, examples, use cases, and supporting evidence to reach at least 800-1200 words for key pages.
Poor Content Structure
Content that lacks a clear hierarchy of headings, uses inconsistent formatting, or presents information without logical flow will score low on structure. Use a single H1, organize sections with H2 and H3 headings, and ensure each section follows a logical progression. Tables, lists, and highlighted key points help AI engines extract and reference specific information.
