Why Compare URLs?
Comparing URLs is one of the most powerful features in Bloffee. It lets you put your content side by side with competitor pages to see exactly where you are winning and where they are beating you. This direct comparison reveals opportunities you might otherwise miss.
You can also use comparison to test different versions of your own content. See which approach works better for GEO optimization. Compare old and new versions to measure improvement. Or check how different pages on your site perform against each other.
How URL Comparison Works
When you compare URLs in Bloffee, the platform analyzes all the GEO-Score factors for each URL. It then displays them side by side so you can see the differences at a glance. Each factor gets scored independently, making it easy to spot specific areas where one URL performs better than another.
The comparison view uses color coding to highlight differences. Green indicates strong performance, yellow shows medium performance, and red flags issues that need attention. You can quickly scan the comparison to find the biggest gaps between URLs.
Step-by-Step: Running a Comparison
Select Your First URL
Start by choosing the main URL you want to analyze. This is usually one of your own pages. You can select it from your existing URLs in the dashboard, or add a new URL directly in the compare section.
Add Comparison URLs
Click the plus button to add URLs you want to compare against. These could be competitor pages, different versions of your content, or other pages from your own site. You can add up to 5 URLs in a single comparison.
Run the Analysis
Once you have selected all your URLs, click the Compare button. Bloffee will analyze each URL if it has not been scanned before, or use existing data if the URLs are already in your dashboard. This usually takes 30-60 seconds per new URL.
Review the Results
The comparison view shows all URLs in columns with each GEO factor in rows. Scan down each column to see how that URL performs across all factors. Scan across rows to compare how different URLs handle specific factors.
Understanding the Comparison View
The comparison view presents a lot of information in an organized way. Here's how to read and interpret what you see.
Overall Scores
At the top of each column, you see the overall GEO-Score for that URL. This gives you a quick sense of which URL is performing best overall. However, the real insights come from looking at individual factors below.
A URL might have a lower overall score but excel in specific areas you care about. That's why drilling into the details is so important for competitive analysis.
Factor-by-Factor Comparison
Each row shows a different GEO factor. The factors are grouped into categories like Readability, Content Structure, and AI Optimization.
Look for rows where competitors score significantly higher than you. These are your biggest opportunities for improvement. Also notice where you are ahead. These are your competitive advantages worth maintaining.
Difference Indicators
Bloffee highlights the differences between URLs with visual indicators. A green up arrow shows where one URL beats another. A red down arrow shows where it falls behind. The size of the arrow indicates how big the gap is.
Focus your attention on the largest gaps. These represent the biggest opportunities or threats. Small differences of a few points matter less than major gaps of 20-30 points or more.
What to Compare
URL comparison is most valuable when you compare the right types of pages. Here are the most effective comparison strategies.
Your Page vs Top Competitor
This is the most common comparison. Take your page and compare it to the top-ranking competitor for your target topic. See exactly what they are doing differently and where you can improve to catch up or overtake them.
Multiple Competitors
Compare your page against 3-5 top competitors at once. This shows you common patterns among successful pages. If all competitors excel in a specific factor, that factor is probably very important for your topic.
Before and After Updates
Compare different versions of your own page to measure the impact of optimizations. Save a snapshot before making changes, then compare it to the updated version. This proves which improvements actually work.
Best vs Worst Performers
Compare your highest-scoring page against your lowest-scoring page. This reveals what makes your best content work well. Apply those lessons to improve your weaker pages.
Similar Topics, Different Approaches
If you have multiple pages targeting similar topics, compare them to see which approach works better. This helps you develop a winning formula for future content.
Interpreting Comparison Results
Once you have the comparison results, you need to interpret them correctly to make good decisions. Here's how to analyze what you see.
Your Strengths
✓Factors where you score 10+ points higher than competitors
✓Areas where you consistently beat all competitors
✓Unique advantages competitors cannot easily copy
These are your competitive moats. Protect and enhance these strengths. Mention them in your marketing. They are what sets you apart.
Critical Gaps
✗Factors where competitors score 20+ points higher
✗Areas where all competitors beat you consistently
✗Missing elements that competitors all have
These are urgent priorities. Focus your optimization efforts here first. Closing these gaps will have the biggest impact on your GEO performance.
Quick Wins
Look for factors where the gap is significant but the fix is simple. For example, if competitors have better meta tags or image alt text, you can fix that quickly.
These quick wins boost your score fast and build momentum for bigger optimization projects. Always start with a few quick wins before tackling complex improvements.
Comparison Analysis Tips
- •Focus on the top 3 gaps between you and competitors
- •Look for patterns across multiple competitors to find important factors
- •Do not try to win on every factor - focus on the most impactful ones
- •Re-run comparisons monthly to track progress and spot new competitors
- •Save comparison reports to document improvement over time
- •Use comparisons to set realistic, data-driven optimization goals
Using Insights for Strategy
Comparison results are only valuable if you act on them. Here's how to turn insights into action.
Advanced Comparison Techniques
Once you master basic comparison, try these advanced techniques to gain deeper insights.
Segment by Content Type
Compare pages within specific content types. For example, compare all your product pages against competitor product pages. Then do the same for blog posts, landing pages, and other content types. This reveals type-specific optimization patterns.
Different content types often need different optimization strategies. What works for a blog post might not work for a product page. Segmented comparison helps you develop specialized strategies for each type.
Track Changes Over Time
Save comparison snapshots monthly. Then compare the snapshots to see how the competitive landscape changes. Are competitors improving faster than you? Are you closing gaps? Are new competitors emerging?
This temporal analysis reveals trends that help you predict where the market is heading. You can stay ahead by optimizing for factors that are becoming more important.
Industry Benchmarking
Compare your pages against top performers across your entire industry, not just direct competitors. This shows you what world-class optimization looks like in your field.
Industry leaders often set standards that trickle down. By studying them, you learn what will become common practice in the future. Implement those standards now to stay ahead.
Exporting and Sharing Comparisons
Comparison reports are powerful tools for stakeholder communication. You can export them as PDFs, share them via link, or present them in meetings. The visual format makes it easy for non-technical people to understand the competitive situation.
Learn all the export options in our exporting and sharing guide. You can customize reports with your branding, add notes, and highlight specific findings to tell a compelling story about your optimization strategy.
Common Comparison Mistakes
Avoid these common mistakes when comparing URLs to get more accurate and useful insights.
Comparing Apples to Oranges
Only compare similar types of content. Do not compare a product page to a blog post. They serve different purposes and need different optimization strategies.
Copying Instead of Learning
Use comparisons to learn principles, not to copy competitors word-for-word. Your content needs your unique voice and perspective.
Ignoring Context
A competitor might have a lower score but still rank well due to domain authority or backlinks. GEO is one factor among many in overall search performance.
One-Time Analysis
A single comparison is just a snapshot. Run comparisons regularly to track changes and spot trends in the competitive landscape.
Next Steps
Start comparing your most important pages against top competitors today. Identify the biggest gaps and make a plan to close them. Use the insights to guide your content strategy and prioritization decisions.
Remember that comparison is an ongoing process, not a one-time task. As you improve your pages and competitors adjust their strategies, the competitive landscape shifts. Regular comparison keeps you informed and ahead of the curve.
